Many companies around the world have been forced to alter their mobile device management strategies to accommodate the use of personally owned smartphones, according to a recent report from Forrester Research. The 10 Lessons Learned From Early Adopters Of Mobile Device Management Solutions report revealed that 59 percent of companies now support personally owned devices in some manner. Sixteen percent said they support all such smartphones, while 14 percent lend support to a specific set of devices and 18 percent give limited support to all personal devices. "[Infrastructure and operations] managers must now ensure the integrity of corporate data and applications across a broad spectrum of mobile devices, form factors and platforms," the report stated. Furthermore, Forrester revealed that 83 percent of firms expect to support iOS devices, such as the iPhone and iPad, and 77 percent of respondents expect to support Android-based devices during the next 12 months. In addition to smartphones, tablets are also becoming increasingly popular for enterprise mobility. Overall, a recent Juniper Research report predicted that sales of the devices will surpass 250 million by 2016. |
