Mobile, cloud security market set to rise

26 Jul 2011

Given the proliferation of hosted services and mobile devices, as well as threats against data produced and stored with both, the total market for cloud and mobile security solutions is poised to increase, according to an expert at IDC.

Sally Hudson, a research director with the market analysis firm, made her prediction at the recent Cloud Identity Summit 2011 in Keystone, Colorado. She said the overall market will reach $6 billion by 2015, up from $4 billion today.

In four years, Hudson added, the mobile security segment will account for 33 percent of the overall market.

"The acceptance of mobile working practices is increasing, but so too are security fears," stated a recent V3 report in discussing Hudson's comments.

According to IDC, mobile device management concerns have doubled during the past year to the point where more than half of IT managers count mobile security among their greatest concerns.

Deploying mobile device management will add a layer of mobile security to a company's program. Many such solutions offer remote wipe and data encryption capabilities to ensure the information stored on smartphones and tablets remains protected.
