Cloud computing and mobility are two technologies that fit together seamlessly. Both can increase an end-user's productivity and boost the efficiency of business processes.

That's why, according to a new report from AMI-Partners, cloud apps will actually unlock the power of mobile devices.

Initially, smartphones were good for accessing corporate email. But with advances in mobile device technology has come increased demand for robust mobile applications, according to AMI.

"[Mobile] workers already use mobile devices to email and browse the web," AMI research analyst Prashanth Motupalli said, "but they are now looking for more sophisticated business applications while not in the office. This opportunity means much more than spreadsheets and documents."

Currently, according to AMI, 3.5 million U.S. small- and medium-sized businesses leverage smartphones and 700,000 use tablets. Those numbers are expected to increase by 40 percent and 85 percent, respectively, during the next year.

Those figures suggest a greater need for mobile device management policies and solutions for these organizations. With the right tools, a company can optimize its mobility program by ensuring that costs are kept down and mobile data is secured.
